Three Year Degree Exception- Petition Letter Essay I am a diligent, hardworking student submitting this petition before you. I wish to pursue my Masters’ in Information Technology in the U.S. and I have the preliminary eligibility of a Bachelors’ from Osmania University in India. I have also a post graduate diploma that I obtained from a professional organization Comp-u-Serve.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In India, a student becomes eligible to apply for his Masters’ soon after he completes the three year rigorous curriculum at Bachelors’ and this is equivalent to the four year degree in the US. I was in the midst of a formal education from Vivekananda School of PG Studies which is a DOEACC – B Level Program,[ equivalent to Master’s In Computer applications on completion ] when I came to the US to take up employment at General Electric, since the prestigious offer was too good an opportunity to miss. I would have completed my Masters’ in India had it not been for the wonderful opportunity to come to the US and I request the authorities to consider the fact that I do have a Bachelors’ in Commerce from a University, a Diploma in Computer Applications and further formal education at Vivekananda School of Post Graduate Studies that gives me an additional 12 semester hours of credit as evaluated by CED Evaluations. The education system in India trains a student adequately to pursue a Masters’ after the three year duration of Bachelors’. The course curriculum and number of hours a student has to put in during his Bachelors’ are designed to suit this purpose. The student gets an all round thorough training in the Major he chooses and there are allied subjects that are given equal importance. Once a student gets his Bachelors’ he is sufficiently equipped to face the challenges in the course of his Masters’, because the three year degree course curriculum is intensive, and calls for an in depth study of the major chosen. It was this University degree of Commerce and the computer skills acquired in the course of my diploma that fetched me an excellent employment opportunity in the US. This stands testimony to the fact that the three year University degree given by an Indian University is as good as the four year degree that makes a student eligible for his Masters’ in the USA.Many deserving students who successfully complete their three year University degree get Campus placements and lucrative employment offers.   Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  I became interested in the field of Finance in my High School which motivated me to get a University Degree in Commerce. However, market research showed a growing demand for computer products and services and hence I decided to pursue a business related to Computer products. Being a Commerce student I wanted to be exposed to Computer Applications first, and that is why I first chose to get a diploma at Comp-u-serve. My motive was to get a systematic training in Information Systems which would enable me to offer unique services and solutions to corporate houses. Hence I decided to take up a job as a Computer Professional to better understand the practical aspects of business. Later, I also joined a Master’s program in Computer Applications to enhance my technical knowledge to the fullest the following are the courses that I studied during my training at Vivekananda.1. IT Tools and Applications.2 Business Systems.3 Programming and Problem Solving through C Language .4 Computer Organisation.5 Structured System Analysis Design.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I passed three of these but I was forced to discontinue my studies because I had to come abroad.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   .Now my unfinished education would get fulfillment only by getting admission into a Masters’ program in the US. The Bachelor’s of Commerce in my case is equivalent to Bachelor’s of Business Administration as evaluated by CED Evaluation. I have had good work experience in the field of Technology because I was a system administrator at Wintech Computers for two years, a Client Service Analyst for two years at GE and an IT Consultant for six years at Mascon Global Consulting.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The Indian system offers a Bachelors’ [a University degree] after three years and that is why I had to take up the three year course. I do have a post graduate diploma in computer applications, a formal education in my regular post Graduate studies in Computer Applications for six months and sufficient related experience. I humbly request you to give weight to these facts and grant me an exception to the four year university degree policy as I have a three year degree. I am confident that I would be able to meet all demands in the course curriculum of my Masters’ in Information Systems., because I have the grounding as well as motivation to complete the course successfully. I have basic exposure to theoretical knowledge of computers, competent and relevant practical experience in the field, and a composite honing of skills and comprehensive knowledge in Computer Applications would only be provided by a Masters’ .I assure you of my eligibility to pursue this and request you to treat my three year University degree in India as the four year eligibility criteria of the US.

The Fungi Formerly Known as Dentinum Repandum This paper will cover a description of Hydnum repandum, its ecology, and some research involving the species. The first topic to be discussed in this paper is a description of Hydnum repandum, which was until recently referred to as Dentinum repandum. The description of the fungi will start with the appearance of H. repandum, and will be followed by the life cycle of the noted species. The appearance of Hydnum repandum is quite unique. The stipe of the fungi can range from two to seven centimeters tall, and one to three centimeters thick (Wood). The surface of the stipe can range from cream to yellow in color, and is dry and smooth. The cap of the mushroom is two to ten centimeters broad, with a smooth, dry surface (Graham 84). The caps color can range from cream to orange. It has a thick flesh that is very brittle, with a mild taste and odor. The hymenophore has teeth that are 0.4 to 0.6 centimeters long. They are cream colored, and also brittle (Wood). The life cycle of Hydnum repandum is fairly simple, as you can see from Figure 2. It falls into the subdivision of Eumycota, called Basidiomycotina (Ross 18). This group contains many large, fleshy fungi, To begin this discussion on the life cycle of Hydnum Repandum, this text will start with the basidiospore germination (Webster 295). This results in a haploid mycelium with a single nucleus in each cell. It is then referred to as the monokaryon, or the primary mycelium (Ross 141). Following this, two genetically different thalli come together, and the nuclei move from one thallus into another. The migration of nuclei usually results in both of the thalli becoming dikaryotic (Ross 142). This nuclear migration is very quick, and every hyphal tip becomes binucleate. The subsequent growth of the mushroom is all dikaryon (Ross 143). The next step includes the two nuclei of the dikaryon fusing through karyogomy (Ross 146). The resulting diploid zygotic nucleus then undergoes meiosis, and four haploid nuclei are formed in the basidium (Webster 280). The haploid nuclei move into projections on the basidium, which turn into spores. The spores are attached to the sterigmata until they are released (Ross 146). The cycle then starts over again. The next topic for discussion in this paper is ecology. This will include, preferred habitats and interactions with abiotic and biotic elements of the environment.

Amy Cuddy was an intelligent young woman who was known to be smart and gifted until the age of 19, when she had encountered a horrific car accident. After this accident, Amy woke up in a head injury rehab ward. Her head injury had caused her IQ to drop by two standard deviations and she had to withdrawal from college. From having a core identity as being smart to the knowledge of her decrease in IQ had left Amy completely powerless. She felt as if her identity had been taken away from her and had lost the confidence that she once had. She tried several times to get back into college and to pursue her education but they kept telling her that college was no longer meant for her and that she should consider another path. However, she kept trying without giving up. After struggles and chances, Amy had eventually graduated from college, 4 years later than her peers. She later spoke with an adviser, whom had helped her get into Princeton University. Amy Cuddy possessed certain qualities that allowed her to be successful after the car accident. From the intrapersonal or self-awareness realm, the quality that Amy contained was self-regard. Self-regard is to not only notice all the positive aspects of oneself, but to be fully aware of the less positive aspects as well and the individual continues to keep their head held high at the same time. Although knowing that her IQ level had dropped drastically, Amy Cuddy still held herself on high regards and kept trying to get back into College. This was emotionally and academically hard for Amy, but even when she was told that college was not meant for her and that she should consider following another path, she did not give up but kept trying. Although it was four years later than her peers, she still did manage to graduate from college. From the Intrapersonal realm that focuses on relationships with others, Amy contains the quality of developing a meaningful intrapersonal relationship with her adviser. This means to have healthy boundaries, to have a good intimacy and to use dynamic communication skills. Amy had good intimacy with her adviser and had convinced her adviser that she was qualified and that she had potential to attend Princeton University. Amy also contains the adaptability realm. This realm focuses on how an individual is able to handle different situations. Individuals who are strong in this field are able to be managing when things go unexpectedly. When Amy had finally gotten into Princeton University, at first she was afraid and was not as confident. She even consulted her adviser the day before her Princeton presentation and told her that she quits. Her â€Å"angel† adviser had given her this unique advise and told her to fake confidence, to fake it even if she was terrified and to do it until she gets to the point in which she realizes that she is actually doing it. Amy followed her adviser’s guidance and with success had continued her education. Through research, Amy recognizes stress-reducing skills. People who are more familiar and experienced in this area often discover stress-reducing skills. They come up with certain ways to soothe and calm themselves from the stress that they encounter. She learns about the cortisol levels and how body language plays an important role on the confidence and success level of an individual. After performing an experiment, Amy concludes that people with high power have a 25% decrease in the amount of cortisol while people with low power have a 15% increase in the amount of cortisol. She also concludes through the experiment that changing posture for a few minutes can actually change your life in meaningful ways. Performing high power poses tends to increase the confidence level of individuals, which leads them to perform their task successfully. From the general mood realm, Amy possesses the quality of optimism. Optimism allows individuals to analyze their situation realistically and in a positive manner. This trait gives them a sense of hope that there will be benefits without believing that unrealistic conditions may occur. In my opinion I believe that Amy was initially an optimistic person and even after her car accident, deep down she still was. Without being optimistic, Amy wouldn’t have been able to convince herself to go back to college and to pursue her education. She was told that she wasn’t meant for college but she did not give up. When speaking to her adviser, her adviser must have seen great potential in Amy for her to make the decision of making arrangements for Amy to attend Princeton. Amy showed her adviser the potential she had and proved to her that she was qualified. Without the optimism she wouldn’t have been able to convince her adviser. Amy did however want to give up right before the Princeton presentation, but that’s because she doubted herself and she felt out of placed, but what brought her through college and to the adviser was the optimistic trait that she possessed. She could of gave up right after her car accident when she was told that college was not for her, but she did not. By analyzing the emotional intelligence and academic realm, it can be said that Amy contains the quality of reducing impulsivity. Amy wanted to go to college although she was told that college was no longer an option for her. She knew that college might be more challenging for her and that she would finish college later than her peers. However, throughout the struggles, Amy knew that the outcome would be positive. When told to find another option than college, she could of easily found another way, but her determination to go to college and to pursue an education helped her begin her journey. She had a clear sense of what she wished to accomplish and chose to sacrifice time to reach her goal.
